Mark Zuckerberg Shares Lessons Learnt as Facebook Turns 14

Mark Zuckerberg said the Facebook community exists today not because they avoided mistakes, but because they tried enough to solve the greatest challenge

Billionaire and Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg, who started off the social networking site when he was 19 years old, took to his official page to share the lessons he has learnt so far as Facebook turned 14 yesterday.

Mark Zuckerberg who made $4 Billion 10 days into 2018 according to a Bloomberg’s billionaires list, said the reason the Facebook community exists today is not because they avoided mistakes, but because they tried enough to solve the greatest challenge.

Here’s what he wrote below; “Today is Facebook’s 14th birthday.

It’s a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come from that dorm room at Harvard and how far we still have to go to bring the world closer together. And it’s a moment to think about what we need to do better.
Sometimes people ask what I’ve learned along the way. I was 19 when I started Facebook, and I didn’t know anything about building a company or global internet service. Over the years I’ve made almost every mistake you can imagine. I’ve made dozens of technical errors and bad deals. I’ve trusted the wrong people and I’ve put talented people in the wrong roles. I’ve missed important trends and I’ve been slow to others. I’ve launched product after product that failed.

The reason our community exists today is not because we avoided mistakes. It’s because we believe what we’re doing matters enough to keep trying to solve our greatest challenges — knowing full well that we’ll fail again and again, but that it’s the only way to make progress.

We are still early in this journey and we will keep working to improve. That focus has always been our strength, and that’s what this year is all about.

Bringing us closer together with our family and friends matters, and 14 years in I’m proud of what we do and grateful to be a part of something so meaningful.

It’s an honor to be on this journey with you.

JUST IN: Lawmakers Impeach Lagos Assembly Speaker Obasa

Lagos Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa has been impeached by 32 members of the State House of Assembly.

This development comes amid allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement against the speaker.

According to reports, the embattled Speaker was impeached for gross misconduct and abuse of office.

Obasa has been accused of spending N17 billion on a gate to the assembly complex, which critics argue is excessive and fraudulent. There have also been allegations of mishandling constituency funds and projects.

Obasa who represents Agege State Constituency I in 2007 has been reelected four times in 2011, 2015 2019 and 2023. He was first elected Speaker in 2015.

Members of the Assembly immediately elected Mojisola Meranda representing Apapa I State Constituency as the new Speaker.

Oyo High Court has revealed plan to decide on bail applications filed by ex- Queen Naomi Silekunola, Alhaji Oriyomi Hazmat and Fasasi Abdulahi on Monday, 13th January, 2025.

The court commenced the hearing of the bail applications filed by Hamzat, Naomi, and Fasasi on Tuesday amid tight security.

Counsels to the suspects had filed summon of Application for bail before the court.

Their applications were heard at Oyo state High Court, Court 8, Ringroad, Ibadan on Tuesday.

Justice K.B. Olawoyin after listening to the submission and arguments of the Counsels at the points of law adjourned the ruling on the bail application till Monday, 13th January, 2025.

The suspects are currently being remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre Agodi on Holden charge.

The suspects were represented in the Court by Alhaji Waheed Olajide, Musibau Adetunmbi, (SAN) and Adekunle Soba loju, (SAN).

FG Raises Duty Tour Allowances, Others for Public Officials

The Federal Government has approved an upward review of allowances for officers in public service.

Some of the allowances under review include Duty Tour Allowance, transport allowances, uniform allowances, and overtime allowances.

The decision was reached at the 46th meeting of the National Council on Establishment, chaired by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack.

The NCE, which serves as the highest policy-making body for public service matters, is chaired by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and includes the Heads of Service from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The meeting was preceded by a two-day technical session chaired by the Permanent Secretary, Service Policies and Strategies Office.
