Akon Considering Running For President Against Donald Trump In 2020
Hip-Hop artist Akon is contemplating venturing into politics to combat President Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential race, according to a recent interview with Newsweek.
Although Akon was born in Missouri, a stretch of his childhood was spent with his family in the West African country. He moved back to America at 7 and later became a successful businessman. As a result, Trump’s current position on immigration has made Akon feel “a lot more unsafe.”
Akon also said he feels that Trump has enticed the reemergence of hate groups after former president Barack Obama worked hard to try and unify the country. “We really came a long way to get people to come together, and look at each other as humans, and work towards a common cause,” he said. “And now it seems like everything that was done is being undone, with gangs and race groups reemerging. It’s just horrible.”
